Zakat
Zakat means to purify, as Allah (SWT) says in the Quran: “take from their wealth so that you might purify and sanctify them” (9:103). To give Zakat and provide to those in need Muslims purify their wealth.
As it is said in the Quran, your Zakat may be given to eight different divisions of people including:
1. People who live below the poverty line.
2. People who do not have any income or properties.
3. Authorized collectors of Zakat.
4. People who reverted to Islam in need of support.
5. Freeing slaves in parts of the world that still have slavery.
6. To pay the debts of someone unable to pay it back.
7. To the people supporting Allah’s (SWT) cause.
8. To refugees fleeing their countries because of war.
